● Program Overview
What’s “outreach” all about?
Your DTS lecture phase is roughly divided into three sections: upward (looking at the beauty of God and all He’s done), inward (learning who we are in Christ, and discovering how He wants to flow through us), and outward (discovering how God wants us to be part of His plan to transform the world).
Outreach brings it all together. After lecture phase, students will get the wonderful opportunity to put into practice what they have learned. During a dynamic, 8-week experience in a culture foreign to your own, you will learn to walk with Jesus in fulfilling the Great Commission.
Program Structure
We divide our outreach days into thirds: (1) worship and prayer, (2) ministry and (3) team time. We emphasize the missional value of serving wholeheartedly, and will be working with local contacts to serve in practical ways, share the gospel, our testimonies and build relationships. We believe in a sabbath rest and will take time to re-charge and enjoy local activities, too!
What’s Included
Outreach fees cover all airfare associated with the outreach and all ground costs, including costs for recreational activities as part of a sabbath rest.
NOT INCLUDED: costs for personal toiletries and spending money.
Where you’ll go
YWAM * AK focuses on two target locations: Japan and Alaska. We will spend approximately 4 weeks in each location.

the Mat-Su Valley
As YWAM Mat-Su Valley, we are first and foremost called to advance the Kingdom where we live. With a population of over 120,000 people, our valley is the fastest growing area in Alaska, with a 34% increase since 2010.
With that growth has come many challenges. Homelessness, drug abuse, domestic abuse, family trauma and depression are rampant.
The great news is that Jesus is on the move. The church in the valley has many powerful, local expressions that are prayerfully and intentionally going after the people trapped in these cycles. In the power of Holy Spirit, the body of Christ is coming together to see His Kingdom Come and His will be done in our valley as it is in Heaven. Come join us!
Rural Alaska
Alaska is HUGE!! There are many towns and villages in Alaska that cannot be reached by roads. Planes, boats and snow machines are the only way in or out.
The Alaska Natives are beautiful, rich in culture and tradition. Unfortunately the enemy has worked hard to destroy these people whom God loves—but disciples of the King carry the cure for a hurting world.
Part of your outreach will be in the Alaskan villages. We will come in humbly, to “go low, slow and stop for the one.” Join us to see Jesus glorified in this beautiful land.
Japan
Japan is home to over 122 million people, a decrease from 128 million in 2010. With a median age of 50, Japan’s population is shrinking by 1,886 people a day (at the time of this post). Most Japanese do not know Jesus, or may have never heard His name. It is one of the largest unreached people groups on Earth. As missionaries who lived in Tokyo for 15 years, this land still burns in our hearts. The Japanese are some of the most amazing people on the planet. And they are in desperate need of a revelation of the Living God who knows them and yearns to draw them into His love. We will spend part of our outreach in Japan being light in the darkness!
